The Scholarship Holders of the Concert Saison 2020/21
Clara de Groote, percussion
The German Clara de Groote was born in 2002, began to play the violin at the age of five and when she was eleven discovered her love for the drumset. Since 2015 she plays classical percussion.
In 2016 at the age of fourteen she became the youngest scholarship holder of “Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now” in Frankfurt. This enabled her to gain regular concert experience. At the national competition “Jugend Musiziert” in 2017 Clara won the first prize in the category “Neue Musik”. In addition she won the special prize of the Manfred-Vetter-Stiftung for special ensembles.
In 2018 she was accepted to study at the Hochschule fuer Musik “Hanns Eisler” Berlin with Professors Li Biao, Rainer Seegers, Franz Schindlbeck (both of the Berlin Philharmonic) and Ni Fan. She has taken part in several workshops and master classes including with Pete Lockett (London) and Wieland Welzel (principal timpanist of the Berlin Philharmonic). In addition to playing in several youth orchestras and ensembles Clara was accepted in 2018 to play percussion in the Bundesjugendorchester.
Projects with conductors like Kirill Petrenko, Ingo Metzmacher and Alexander Shelley took her to the largest concert halls in Germany including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig and the Berlin Philharmonie. Tours have also taken her abroad to the Luxembourg Philharmonie and to South Africa in the summer of 2019.
After finishing school the young musician is looking forward to pursuing her studies in the winter semester 2019/20 at the HfM “Hanns Eisler” Berlin on the bachelor course.
In 2020 Clara was awarded a scholarship by the Bad Homburger Schlosskonzerte.
