Ivan Bessonov, piano

Ivan Bessonov was born in St. Petersburg in 2002 and received his first piano lessons at the age of six. In 2012 he began his piano studies for especially talented children at the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatoire.

In 2015 he composed music for several films. In the same year he was awarded the Grand Prix at the International Chopin Piano Competition in St. Petersburg. In 2016 Ivan Bessonov won the first prize and the audience prize at the Grand Piano Competition in Moscow and the first prize at the International Anton Rubinstein Competition. For his interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s 1st. Piano Concerto he was awarded the 1st. prize at the Eurovision Young Musicians 2018 as part of the Edinburgh International Festival.

Since 2015 Ivan Bessonov gives recitals and performs with orchestras in the whole of Russia and Europe. Famous conductors like Valery Gergiev and Vladimir Spivakov invite him to perform with their orchestras including the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Tchaikovsky-Symphonieorchester and the Russian Nationalphilharmonie. He has received invitations to renowned music festivals such as the Moscow Easter Festival with Valery Gergiev, the Verbier Festival and the Piano Festival La Roque d’Antheron.

For his debut album in 2019 with the label ARS Produktion Ivan Bessonov recorded some of his own compositions and works by Chopin. Further high points in 2019 included his recital in the famous auditorium of the Fondation Louis Vuitton and his debut in the Prinz-Regententheater in Munich.

In future seasons arrangements have been made for him to appear at the Cologne Philharmonie, the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Meistersingerhalle in Nuremberg and in Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Holland, Spain and Canada.
