GREAT COMPETITION SUCCESSES FOR OUR CURRENT SCHOLARSHIP HOLDER IN THE CATEGORY OF VIOLA

Our viola scholarship holder, Ayaka Taniguchi, has impressively won the International Hindemith Viola Competition in Munich. After several live rounds with a total of 27 participants, she triumphed in an outstanding final against strong international competition. She received three awards for her exceptional performance:
first prize, the audience prize and the Fondation Hindemith Prize for the best interpretation of Paul Hindemith’s Sonata Op. 25 No. 4.
Last week, Ayaka Taniguchi achieved another success: she won 2nd prize at the Concours de Genève – Viola Competition 2025, one of the world’s most prestigious music competitions. Eight candidates were invited to the semi-final round from 92 applicants, and three finalists were selected. In the final, the finalists presented a compulsory piece by Swiss composer Léo Albisetti and a viola concerto with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. Ayaka Taniguchi thrilled the audience with a brilliant interpretation of Béla Bartók’s Viola Concerto.
We are very proud of Ayaka Taniguchi’s outstanding achievements and look forward to accompanying her further artistic development as part of our sponsorship programme. In the 2026/27 season, she will also be performing as a soloist in one of our Young Artist Matinees.
