Annelien van Wauwe, clarinet

The Belgian clarinetist Annelien van Wauwe, a former BBC New Generation Artist, ARD Prize winner, and recipient of the Borletti Buitoni Trust Award, is known for her intense and lyrical interpretations.

She attracted attention early on through numerous competition successes. She gained international recognition in 2012 when she was awarded second prize at the ARD International Music Competition (with no first prize awarded).

Since 2018, she has maintained a close collaboration with the label Pentatone. Her debut album belle époque, recorded with the Orchestre National de Lille under Alexandre Bloch, was released in 2019 and received the Opus Klassik award in 2020 for Best Young Artist. Another album featuring works by Copland and Finzi, recorded with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under Nicolò Foron, is scheduled for release in 2027.

Van Wauwe has performed with renowned orchestras such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.

A passionate chamber musician, she founded the ensemble CAROUSEL as well as the wind quintet BREEZE. She is also a professor at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague.
